Written on a sidewalk in front of a house... [Nov. 24th, 2009|03:26 pm]
So, I was walking along my usual route, and I saw a short conversation on the sidewalk, written in chalk. It read:

Blue Chalk: I want to sleep with you!!!!!!!!!! Please?!!!!!!!!!!
Pink Chalk: No! My parents will say no!!!!!!!!!!!
Blue Chalk: This is why they invented the puppy dog face! By the way, you do a great puppy dog face! Can you teach me?!

Where The Wild Things Are [Oct. 22nd, 2009|09:13 pm]
Saw the movie tonight. It was good - it explored some mature concepts with the soul of a child. Not the biggest fan of the camerawork, but the dialogue... oh, the dialogue was so very good. The characters were excellent and the voice acting was incredible. The scenery was breath-taking as well. I would definitely recommend this movie to pretty much anyone who keeps in touch with his or her inner child (or outer child, as the case may be).

Also, after checking IMDB, there was a surprising predominance (4/7, thought one of the remaining 3 only has 1 line) of people from shows on HBO (Sopranos and 6 Feet Under). Weird, but interesting, at least to me.

The paradox of my life. [Oct. 15th, 2009|12:27 pm]
1: I am trying to lose weight.
2: In my house, there is a delicious ham.

I can only deal with one or the other of these things in a manner that I feel appropriate - I certainly can't do both.

Nostalgia [Oct. 2nd, 2009|08:10 am]
They've done a remake of A Boy And His Blob for the Wii. It looks beautiful, and seems to have improved every aspect of the game while keeping the core the same. Website is: http://www.aboyandhisblob.com/

For those of you that didn't know, A Boy And His Blob is an old Nintendo game where a Blob comes to Earth from the planet Blobonia and befriends a young boy. Blobs can change their form and function by eating jelly beans - an apple jelly bean turns him into a jack, licorice jelly beans into a ladder, and so on. In the original game, they had to go underground (risking their lives many, many times) and find enough treasure to get the jellybeans necessary from the candy store, then fly to Blobonia and defeat their evil emperor. It was a charming, fun game with great gameplay, but next to no plot, mediocre graphics (even for the time), weak controls, and repetitive music. The remake seems to have improved all of those things, so I'm excited about it. But I'll just have to wait and see.

*WARNING!* The content behind this cut is a discussion of an effectively completed plot from Baton Rouge.. There is some coarse language, and depending on your place of business, might not be work safe. It is not IC in any way, shape, or form. If you try and use this as IC knowledge, I will cry. I will cry until you are embarrassed to death

Rest assured, this can happen.

Baton Rouge People With Time That Need Money [Sep. 16th, 2009|09:35 am]
The Micro-A study at Pennington Biomedical is looking for more people - while they have some odd screening requirements and need you to stay on-site for a few weeks (17 days, then 4 days later on) it pays $4500. They will be trying out weight-loss drugs on you, so not for people who are afraid to be guinea pigs. I'll be trying to get in.

Details at http://www.pbrc.edu/Clinical_Trials/Current_Studies.asp?studyid=62 .

Unhappiness [Aug. 30th, 2009|08:44 am]
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112312561

tl;dr - Reading Rainbow is cancelled. This show was a favorite of mine since I was just a tiny MaskedHuzzah, so this one got me, even more so than when Mr. Rogers died. Since it's one of the things that drove me to read the quantity that I do, I think it may even qualify as life altering. But since it doesn't actually teach kids how to read (it instead encourages them to read by making reading look fun), it's funding is getting pulled.

Also, damn. 26 years? I did not know that the show was older than me.

OOC Discussion from N.O. Changeling [Aug. 29th, 2009|08:34 am]
"Yeah, basically my character wants to push people into doing what they need to do. Otherwise shit happens and it starts getting hairy." - Sam

"So, you're here to protect them?" - Me

"Well, yeah." - Sam

"You're here to protect them by pushing?" - Me

"I suppose." - Sam

"So, you are the shover robot, trying to protect people from the terrible secret of space?" - Me

As an explanation, to people who haven't heard of this previously:

On an unrelated note, I have taken to ending conversations with, "Have fun!". This is meant innocently, regardless of context. So, if you say you're going to the bathroom and I say, "Have fun!" this is not because I am a pervert.

Metaness [Aug. 11th, 2009|10:25 pm]
Today, I saw the movie Julie and Julia, which is about a woman blogging and cooking her way through Julia Child's cookbook. The movie was quite good, and I recommend it, but I realized something after I decided to write this in my lj (which was during the movie) - I was going to write about a movie about blogging about writing a cookbook. Obviously, there needs to be a musical made of this just to keep it going.

I also tried a miracleberry tab today (http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/wacky-candy/ab3f/), which makes a lot of things taste like delicious candy. Worth trying if you get a chance, if only to do hilarious things on a bet, but remember that acidy things, while not tasting all that acidic, will still eat away at your tummy, which can be a problem, especially if you are me.
